Blog Examples

The Blogging world has also been called the "Blogosphere." This word is very appropriate because it's so huge. It can be difficult to get started because of how massive it is.

I find that its best to figure out what tools you will need to learn about something new. The tools I have been using so far in my quest to learn about blogs are as follows:

1. A Search Engine (using effective search terms or phrases)

Ex: I went onto Google and put in "blogs." A Wikipedia article came up describing different facts about blogs. This is about the only good thing I found with this search term. When I put in blogs about cars, I found a Forbes article about the best car blogs and it gave me some excellent blogs.

You can find the Wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog

2. Blog Examples

Usually the best way to learn how to do something is to try to find good examples. Here are some of the great examples I found so far, for many different subjects.

Cars:

http://jalopnik.com/

Christianity:

I found this article about 25 different blogs about Christianity:

Politics:

http://blogs.wsj.com/emergingeurope/
http://learning.blogs.nytimes.com/category/current-events/

I also found this awesome article about the 25 best blogs done by kids and students:

Other cool blogs for kids/teens:

http://portalflip.com/ (Skylanders)

So that is what I've found for now. You can easily find your own if you take time to look for your interests in a search engine of your choice. Just remember to use effective search words and it will make it much easier.

I Look Smart Because I'm on the Internet Now

Hi!

Mr. Sands here for my first blog entry. This will be a place where I post on what I've been learning about blogs and what they can be used for.

As of now I have only scratched the surface on what a blog actually is. I've read a few blogs and skimmed a few books about blogs. But when I tried to actually think about what a blog is and what its useful for, a clear definition didn't really materialize in my head right away. So, I decided to do a blog myself to learn about how a blog is made and post what I learn about it. Hopefully you will also find it useful as well.

So, in my first post I will break down what I've learned so far about what a blog is.

My (working) definition of blogs:

1. A Blog is also called a web log. Blogs started off kind of like a journal, where you post your thoughts.

2. Blogging has become a huge thing on the internet that can't be tied down to just journals. Blogging can be about anything.

3. Blogs can be for personal use, commercial use (for selling things), or to create awareness for yourself or your own ideas.

4. Blogs usually involve a few major components:

i. Posts, which are kind of like articles or journal entries.
ii. Comment sections, which are a place where people can comment about what they read on each blog post

That's the best I can break it down to right now. I will post next on some good examples of blogs I've found recently.
